This is a great book to use to build a story sack for children. On SparkleBox there are many great printables which could be added to the sack http://www.sparklebox.co.uk/literacy/stories/owl-babies.html#.Uc3AuOClgSZ This blog features a homemade story sack that can be made cheaply and there are many ideas and crafts suggested which could be used in the classroom. I would suggest including some nonfiction books about Owls in the sack also. Teachers could focus on the life cycle of the owl after reading. Resources for this are available on SparkleBox http://www.sparklebox.co.uk/topic/living/owl-growth/#.Uc3BReClgSY After reading, teachers could use the phrase 'Where's my mummy?' to begin a game of matching other baby animals to their mothers. A printable resource is available from Kidzclub.com for this game http://www.kizclub.com/Topics/animals/babyanimals(C).pdf The following website has an integrated unit made by Robin Diedrichs: http://www.homeschoolshare.com/owl_babies.php It includes a link to a pdf download of lesson ideas and the resources to go along with them. You will also see a video on the website which shows children doing the activities suggested. Teachers could focus on teaching the number concept three and base many activities and games on this. Here is a rhyme called 'Five Wise Old Owls'
This blog post also focused on the number concept and then focused on words rhyming with three
